EuroChem and the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) Faculty of Chemistry held an International Chemistry Forum for school teachers from the regions of Russia and Kazakhstan where EuroChem has a presence. In connection with Global Fertilizer Day, the theme of the forum was the “Fundamentals of Chemistry for Students.” The forum served to provide a platform for the professional development of teachers and to encourage improvements in chemistry classes in secondary schools and the sharing of teaching experience between teachers. The forum program included four training sessions, as well as meetings with leading Russian chemistry scientists, and methodologists.
In his welcoming remarks, the Dean of the MSU Faculty of Chemistry, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Chairman of the expert commission of the Russian Council of School Olympiads in chemistry, Professor Valery Lunin, stated: “The mission of the MSU Faculty of Chemistry is the promotion of chemical sciences and fundamental education, the selection and education of the country’s best chemists. We hold the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, regional Chemistry Olympiads, and large-scale conferences for teachers. I thank EuroChem, our strategic partner in this important endeavor, a company which is not indifferent to the fate of chemical sciences and education. Our common goal is to create favorable conditions for the admission of talented students to universities for the advancement of chemical sciences in Russia”.
The International Forum of Chemistry Teachers is part of EuroChem’s comprehensive program to develop chemistry education and training for the chemical industry. The introduction of chemistry lessons in secondary school allows children to assimilate initial concepts and develop an interest in the subject. As such, EuroChem supports investments in schools, the professional development of teachers and improving chemistry education in various regions. Across nine regions of Russia, Lithuania, and Kazakhstan, EuroChem has established and equipped schools with teaching material and supplies for 34 chemistry, natural science and environment classroom laboratories. These classes offer a springboard to the best Russian universities. EuroChem invests in training talented young chemists, who will go on to industry and science.
EuroChem is one of the leaders in corporate social responsibility in Russia. In 2015, EuroChem’s social and charitable projects represented investments of 659.8 million roubles in the development of Russian regions.
