Aquafortis (Concentrated nitric acid) (HNO3) is obtained by autoclaving of weak nitric acid and nitric oxides; there are two grades of HNO3 – А and B. Grade А is used in the production of electronic and radio-electronic industry products, the nitration processes of organic compounds, the production of explosives, the chemical treatment of metals, the medical industry, and the production of plastics. Grade B is used for galvanic works in the production of chemical reagents, for dissolution of impurities of the industrial products, the nitrating processes of the organic compounds, and the production of explosives.

Concentrated nitric acid – is an incombustible, fire dangerous liquid, and strong oxidizing agent.
Concentrated nitric acid is transported by railroad in special aluminum tanks and by automobile transport in aluminum containers. Skin contact with concentrated nitric acid causes severe burns. Nitric acid vapors irritate upper air passages, cause conjunctivitis and affect the cornea.
Concentrated nitric acid is stored in stock areas in aluminum containers equipped with level gauges. Storage capacities, mixing tanks and platforms should be located in acid-resistant pallets used specifically for the containment of emergency spillage of acid with the following collection to neutralizing tanks. Temperature condition of storage and transportation – ambient temperature. Do not keep near open flame.
