From 2002 to 2013 Thras served in various senior executive roles at Xstrata plc, and was Group Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs and a member of the Executive Committee when the company was sold in 2013.
Subsequently Thras was a cofounder and partner at X2 Resources, a $5.6bn natural resource investment vehicle.
He joins us from SuSeWi Limited, a growth company producing algae as a protein alternative for fish feed and other applications.
Prior to joining Xstrata, Thras was a global partner at the Monitor Group, the international strategy and merchant banking firm.
Thras began his career as an engineer at Gencor, a South African mining company, where he worked in their gold mines and other operations.
Thras has served on numerous boards and is currently a non-executive director of FLSmidth, a publicly listed engineering services company.
Thras is a published author of books and articles on strategy, corporate finance and post-acquisition integration and holds a Master of Business Administration and post-graduate qualifications in electrical engineering and computer science from the Witwatersrand Business School in South Africa.
