EuroChem launches new apatite-staffelite ore processing plant at Kovdorskiy GOK

Zug, Switzerland, 28 April 2015 – EuroChem Group AG (“EuroChem” or the “Group” or the “Company”), a leading global agrochemical company, today announces the launch of a new apatite-staffelite ore processing plant at its Kovdorskiy GOK facility. Located in the Murmansk region, the integrated mining and processing facility is Russia’s second largest producer of apatite concentrate. The new plant is designed to produce 948,000 tonnes of apatite concentrate and 130,000 tonnes of iron ore concentrate per annum. The launch of the facility brings Kovdorskiy GOK’s total annual apatite concentrate capacity to 2.5 million tonnes, with mining operations also yielding valuable co-products, including approximately 5.6 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate and 8 thousand tonnes of baddeleyite concentrate per year.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Dmitry Strezhnev, CEO of EuroChem, said: “The launch of the new processing plant at Kovdorskiy GOK is an important step in the Group’s strategy towards self-sufficiency and the further development of our vertically integrated business model. The plant allows us to increase our raw material base and lower fertilizer production costs.”

Additionally, Kovdorskiy GOK is planning the development of a new apatite-staffelite ore deposit that will serve as a new source for apatite concentrate, the main raw material for phosphate fertilizer production. The deposit’s reserves amount to 50 million tonnes of ore, of which the Group plans to mine up to 6 million tonnes per annum.
