EuroChem appoints new Executive Director at Kovdorskiy GOK

Moscow, July 5 2011, EuroChem today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Igor V. Melik-Gaykazov to succeed Nikolay Alekseyevich Ganza as Executive Director of Kovdorskiy GOK, EuroChem’s mining subsidiary in the Kola Peninsula.

The decision was made as part of the Company’s planned implementation of key personnel renewals. Nikolay Alekseyevich Ganza, who prepared the experienced manager to succeed him, had been Executive Director of Kovdorskiy GOK since 2003. Mr. Ganza has been appointed Adviser to the Executive Director on development strategy and perspectives, the Company’s social policy, and relations with regional authorities, public organizations, and unions. Throughout his tenure, Kovdorskiy GOK achieved significant growth in production volumes and increased its competitiveness on both domestic and foreign markets. During this period, the Company also implemented large-scale investment programs designed to increase its raw material base, reconstructed and upgraded production facilities, and carried out charitable and social programs aimed at improving the quality of life of its employees and their families.

Prior to his appointment, Igor V. Melik-Gaykazov, served as Kovdorskiy GOK Technical Director. A qualified mining engineer, he primarily focused on increasing production and introducing leading-edge technologies, machinery and equipment. He oversaw the increase of the raw material base of the Zhelezny Mine and the industrial processing of new deposits, as well as the development of cyclic-flow technology for the transportation of rock overburden, a unique project in the Kola Peninsula, with economic and environmental benefits estimated in the tens of millions of roubles annually.

Born on July 1, 1962, to a family of miners, Igor V. Melik-Gaykazov graduated from the Moscow Mining Institute in 1985. In 2009, he was awarded an MBA degree and a doctoral degree in Technical Sciences from the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation. He initially joined Kovdorskiy GOK in 1985 as a mine foreman and was awarded 2nd and 3rd class “Mining Glory” badges of honor and a “Miner of Russia”.silver badge.

Nikolay Alekseyevich Ganza was born on October 27, 1946, and graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnical Institute in 1971. After graduating, he worked in the Central Mining Department and the North Mining Department of the Navoi Mining and Smelting Works, at the Eastern Mining and Processing Integrated Works and the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant. From 1999 to 2000, he served as Chairman of the Government of Udmurtia, and was a member of the Federation Council of Russia. From 2001 he held executive positions at Pobuzhsky Ferronickel Integrated Works and OMZ-Spetsstal LLC and headed Kovdorskiy GOK from 2003. He was awarded the Medal For Valiant Labor, and received letters of commendation from the Minister of Medium Machine-Building of the USSR, the Russian Minister of Atomic Power and Industry, the Governor of the Murmansk region and the Murmansk Regional Duma.
